On the basis of the planning design and construction practice of the greenway network in the Pearl River Delta, in this paper, the innovative exploration and summary of the aspects such as regional greenway planning and layout, greenway construction and long-term maintenance and management of greenways. First, it is the resource abundance overlay analysis method based on the GIS system. By building up the "node - path" analysis model of greenway network route selection, the scientific layout of the regional greenway can be conducted; second, the exploration and study of greenway construction means based on the ecological low-carbon multi-engineering composite design technology is conducted, and the promotion and application of ecological restoration and landscape improvement technology etc. along the greenway is carried out; third, the planning implementation guarantee mechanism for the greenway maintenance and management of “joint effort from top to down, long-term operation” is explored from the aspects from the organization and management, technical support, policy support, laws and regulations, operation and maintenance and so on, so as to ensure the smooth implementation of the greenway network planning, construction, maintenance and management.
