On the morning of April 15th, under the guidance of the Department of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of Guangdong Province, Seminar on Conservation, Restoration and Utilization of Ancient Post Roads in Southern Guangdong, organized by the institute, and co-organized by the International Urban Management Association (headquartered in the United States), the Guangdong City Planning Association and the Housing and Urban-Rural Development Bureau of Conghua District was held in Conghua, Guangzhou.

On the morning of April 15th, under the guidance of the Department of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of Guangdong Province, Seminar on Conservation, Restoration and Utilization of Ancient Post Roads in Southern Guangdong, organized by the institute, and co-organized by the International Urban Management Association (headquartered in the United States), the Guangdong City Planning Association and the Housing and Urban-Rural Development Bureau of Conghua District was held in Conghua, Guangzhou. Chief Engineer Ma Xiangming presided over the meeting. Li Yongjie, Chief Planner of the Provincial Housing and Urban-Rural Development Department and Qiu Yanqing, Director of the Institute attended the seminar. In addition, more than 30 leaders and experts from the units including the Provincial Department of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, the Provincial Urban and Rural Planning and Design Institute, the International Urban Management Association, Housing and Urban-Rural Construction Bureau of Conghua District, Guangzhou Urban Planning Survey and Design Institute and Shenzhen Urban Space Planning and Architectural Design Company and so on.

Chief planner Li Yongjie made a speech on behalf of the Provincial Housing and Urban-Rural Development Department. She pointed out that the conservation and utilization of the ancient post roads in Southern Guangdong is a concrete measure of implementing "Cultural Self-confidence" in Guangdong Province as requested by the General Secretary Xi Jinping. She hoped that by holding this seminar, the experience and practice of the American historical trails can be further learned, and the ancient post roads of Southern Guangdong can be built into a health road promoting the outdoor sports of Guangdong and rural tourism, and an economic road accelerating the mutually promoting economy between urban and rural areas in the eastern, western and northern Guangdong, so as to realize the precise poverty alleviation.

At the meeting, Xu Han, Deputy Director of the First Planning Institute made a systematic introduction of the planning and construction of the ancient post road from the aspects such as background significance, overall planning, main practices and work effectiveness of the protection and utilization of the ancient post roads in Southern Guangdong. Mr. Richard Kober of the International Urban Management Association made a presentation with the topic of The importance of the preservation of historical infrastructure for trail development, in which he introduced the experienced practice of the planning and construction of the American historical trails. Tang Xiwen, Executive Vice-President of Shenzhen Municipal Urban Spatial Planning Architectural Design Company, emphatically introduced the planning and construction situation of Ancient Post Road in Qiangang Village, Conghua District.

The participating experts conducted in-depth discussions on the aspects including the specific organization and implementation models for the planning and construction of the ancient post roads of Southern Guangdong and the construction of historical trails in the United States, the sources of funding for construction, business models, social participation, and the effectiveness of the construction as well as the enhancement of exchanges and cooperation between both parties, etc. Dean Qiu Yanqing proposed to draw lessons from relevant experiences and practices to the conservation, restoration, and utilization of the ancient post roads in South China by combining the experience and feeling of the planning and construction of the American historical trail.

On the afternoon of the same day, the participating experts came to Qiangang Ancient Village in Taiping Township, Conghua District, and conducted the on-site investigation of the planning and construction situation of the ancient post roads of in Qiangang Village.
